Hope is a state of mind, not of the world. Hope, in this deep and powerful sense, is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously heading for success, but rather an ability to work for something because it is good.

Separating writing and editing. That's a bit one for me too. I'm getting there though.

Thanks for the comments Nicholas. Great to hear from you.

The initial section about changing personal beliefs and hang-ups is dead-on. I teach songwriting and guitar, and many students visibly give up when they don't get instant results from their efforts. "I can't do that!" they say.

Well, of course they can't--yet. Otherwise, I wouldn't have the pleasure of teaching them.

Often, it takes just a few minutes before the students are able to do what they almost gave up on.

The hardest part of writing for me has been separating the initial draft from the editing process. I'm a perfectionist, and I've had to learn to trust my instincts more and save the nitpicking for after the first draft is done.

Thanks Joshua! Yes, editing is apparently what it's all about. that is, after you get everything out of your head and onto the page.

That is an awesome list of tips! I completely agree with researching the topic and I do find myself editing a lot also. Again, great post.
